1. UX Bounty Update

It has now been almost three months since we began working on the UX Bounty.

We are close to finalizing the first phase of [UXB-1], which focuses on resource creation.

For [UXB-2] and [UXB-3], we are still actively working on resource development and aim to have everything finalized and publicly shared with the community by the end of this year.

As for [UXB-6], we just started work on it last week, so resource creation will take a bit longer. We are aiming to publish the glossary by the end of January.

Looking ahead, we’ve added a few new items for December to prepare and plan for 2025, now that we have more hands-on experience with the bounty.

Reading Notes for December:

  1. [UXB-1] Starting in December, parachains will have all the resources needed to upgrade their address format.
  2. [UXB-2] and [UXB-3] will finalize their respective resources, while work on [UXB-6] will continue into January.
  3. Leveraging our learnings from the past three months, we’ll propose a roadmap for the next version of the UX Bounty (V02). More details on this below.
  4. We’ll restart work on the UX Backlog and scope the remaining issues.
  5. We’ll combine the Q3 and Q4 reports to be delivered at the end of this year.
  6. We’ll take time to reflect and document the best practices we’ve learned throughout this journey.
  7. Finally, we’ll send out the second batch of payouts. (The first payment was made to Braille for its four months of work — you can find all details here.)

2. UX Issues Updates

[UXB-1] - Unification of Address Format

  • The WFC by @jak-pan was executed! :tada:
  • Resources have been completed and are currently under review with the curators for final edits and approval.
  • Once this review is complete, we’ll move to the Implementation phase, where we’ll proactively engage with parachains to help them upgrade their address format. We’ll also notify all teams that might be impacted by the change.

Special thanks to @IkerParity for his big help regarding the CEXs

[UXB-2] - DOT as a Unified Gas Token

  • @Remy_Parity and @francisco.aguirre are working on creating a guide, which will include:
    • Two methods for parachains to implement the change.
    • Recommended best practices for UI design, particularly for appchains.
  • A checklist will also be provided to assist parachains as much as possible.
  • Wallet teams are being onboarded since they will often serve as the primary interface for users managing their gas fees.

[UXB-3] - Protective Measures for Parachains <> CEXs

  • @ThomasR is finishing his wallet journey audit and will share it with wallet teams this week.
  • Although the new address format from [UXB-1] will eventually eliminate this problem, we are still pushing [UXB-3] as a temporary solution in the meantime.

[UXB-6] - Unified Glossary

  • Work began last week with a content analysis of four verticals: Dex, Liquid Staking, Bridges, and Token State.
  • The goal is to have the glossary completed by the end of January.

3. UX Bounty Future Directions

We’re proposing new directions, not just to pursue new ideas, but because we’ve spent the past months building a solid operational foundation. With this groundwork in place, we now have more time and capacity to tackle more complex tasks.

Restricting ourselves solely to resolving UX issues would limit our potential.

Instead, we’ve brainstormed ways the UX Bounty could further contribute to the ecosystem.

Below are some concrete proposals:

Note: These ideas are still in the discussion stage and nothing has been approved yet. We’ll ask the community through a UX Guild vote at the end of the year to finalize these directions.

  1. Continue addressing current UX issues.
  2. Expand our scope to help ecosystem teams.
    • Example: Offering UX Audits or UX Consultancy to Common Good projects like Polkassembly, Subsquare, etc.
  3. Create more ecosystem resources and guidelines.
    • Example: A Web3 equivalent to Google Design Guidelines.
  4. Expand efforts around ecosystem experiences, such as staking, bridging, and voting.
  5. Fund innovative UX projects leveraging Substrate.
  6. Prepare and support Asset Hub migration.
  7. Conduct more user research.
  8. Proposed by Felix (long-term): Focus on building stronger relationships with other ecosystems to create more interoperable experiences.

:point_right: Let us know your thoughts! Any ideas are welcomed!

4. Final Words
