The next Polkadot Hub: Budapest, Astoria

Hi Polkadot Community,

We are offered a great opportunity which is opening the second physical Polkadot Hub, in Budapest, sponsored by Mosaic Chain. In short, free to use co-working space for all of us.

A few of us are already working from this office as Polkadot Ambassadors thanks to Mosaic and we agreed to open up this possibility for others as well.

What is the offer?

  • The Polkadot ecosystem gets free access to Mosaic Chain’s office in the middle of Budapest during working days (Mon-Fri 09:30-17:30). For the ecosystem the big meeting room becomes bookable for co-working alongside the utility spaces.
  • Mosaic’s intention is to bring more talent together and would like to become even more active in the ecosystem
  • This offer is for one year from the start. Later, we can extend it if the community decides to do so.

Who is Mosaic Chain?

  • They are a soon-to-become parachain DEX and investments platform, focused on end-user simplicity
  • They provide space for the Polkadot meetups in Budapest for more than a year
  • Supporters of Polkadot in the region

Are there any costs?

  • We only request a small management fee. One Head Ambassador and two Senior Ambassadors, already have keys to the office and they are appointed to manage it in case this passes.

How does it become an official Polkadot Hub?

  • This is the discussion and we are going to open a Treasury proposal which in case passes, Polkadot Hub Budapest opening becomes official.
  • The announcement happens at the upcoming Polkadot meetup.

What are the requirements and guarantees for protecting the Polkadot brand?
The Polkadot Hubs collective is working on these for more than a year and in case the proposal passes, the guidelines will be followed:
The space would be run only by Polkadot Ambassadors with proven track record.

Whats next?
Please share your opinion on the initiative and if you’d like to nominate the office space as an official physical Polkadot Hub.

Really great location, in the heart of the downtown, Budapest. There were already multiple meetups organised there in the past year. Easy to access with public transport as well. Budapest is a cool city to visit and live there and it would be beneficial for ecosystem members to have a dedicated space to visit every day and work from there efficiently.

The best thing about the location is that it’s right in the middle of the city centre, a 40-minute direct bus ride from the airport to the office, so it’s perfect for someone who wants to spend time in Budapest and needs a “Web3 native” office full of cool, Substrate developers.

The details of the Budapest Polkadot Hub are still in development, as we are in constant dialogue with the office owners and we are also looking for the views of the entire Polkadot community. As soon as we have the big-picture, we will communicate it to the community, but for now it’s up to you to write down your questions and opinions.

First of all, I’d like to underline all your efforts and congratulate for the job done. As long as a city is an easily accessible hub, there is no obstacle to it becoming a main Polkadot hub. This is even more true if there are existing advancements and competitive advantages. For example, some very popular cities are also very expensive. Budapest is reasonable in terms of costs.
