Earlier this year, I received a Decentralized Futures Grant to manage Polkadot’s Social Media accounts via a Social Media Editorial Board (EB).
-
The EB is responsible for creating, editing, curating, and advising on social media content. (You can find our quarterly Twitter reports here and here).
-
The current EB consists of seven members. Their 𝕏/Twitter handles are:
- @0xgoku_
- @crypto_usermane
- @csaint02
- @filippoweb3
- @Flavio_leMec
- @itsbirdo_
- @strindbergmans
-
Each term for the Editorial Board (EB) lasts 6 months. The first EB started in mid-March, and the second will begin in mid-September.
-
Applications for the second EB are now open, apply here: https://forms.gle/BHrdPx55zrpLJe6E7
-
Membership is merit-based, meaning that selection is based on an individual’s proven skills, experience, and contributions to the community. A diverse group with varying skill sets and backgrounds ensures the EB can approach challenges creatively, make well-rounded decisions, and effectively represent the broader Polkadot community. Ideally, an EB of five members might include:
- 1x Meme Master
- 2x Threadoors
- 1x Copywriter / Marketing Specialist
- 1x Technical Expert
-
Requirements
- Active and respected member of the Polkadot community/ecosystem.
- Able to contribute an average of at least 10 hours per week. The EB Telegram chat is active 24/7, so you should be comfortable receiving and responding to messages at any time, including weekends.
- Ability to convene by video meeting for two hours, 2x per month, between 7:00 - 17:00 UTC
- Proficiency in English, the primary language for Polkadot’s social media communication.
-
Compensation is decided by DOT holders via an OpenGov proposal. In the first EB, six out of the seven members (one person declined compensation) each received ~$15K USD worth of DOT via ref #600. However, there is no guarantee of funding for the second EB of course, the DAO will decide.
-
If a funding proposal is approved, the funds will be sent to the EB Multisig, which will then distribute monthly salary payments to the EB members.
-
Tenets - Editorial Board Members (EBMs) are expected to uphold the following tenets. All decisions must align with these principles, and failure to adhere to them may result in removal from the EB:
- Act in the best interest of the Polkadot community / DOT holders.
- Respect and adhere to the philosophy and principles of Polkadot.
- Avoid sharing content that could subject Polkadot to regulatory scrutiny.
- Maintain neutrality; do not favor personal projects or interests.
- Respect each other’s working styles and time.
- Genuinely listen to feedback from community members.
-
What’s next?
- The application period will be open until midnight UTC - September 8th.
- Interviews will be conducted with finalists. The second EB will consist of 5 board members, instead of 7, so that the group is more agile in decision making.
- The new EB will be announced in mid-September.
- Note that members of the current EB may reapply for the second EB.
