A truly exciting surprise came when we received a special speech video from Gavin Wood for the Bangkok Hackathon. In his message, Gavin highlighted the critical importance of hosting hackathons within the Polkadot ecosystem. He stressed that ongoing innovation and the active support of the developer community are essential for Polkadot’s continued success. Gavin encouraged all participants to engage in open communication and collaboration during the hackathon to drive collective growth and innovation.

Total Participation: The two hackathons attracted over 611 developers and 191 projects from 44 countries, exceeding initial targets by 52.75% in participants and an incredible 91% increase in project submissions.

Developer Distribution: In the Singapore event, 269 developers registered, with 65 project submissions. In Bangkok, the numbers were even higher, with 342 developers and 126 project submissions.

Global Reach: Participants hailed from a diverse array of countries, with strong representation from China (33% in Singapore, 36% in Bangkok), India (16% in Singapore, 18% in Bangkok), and other nations like Vietnam, Mexico, Nigeria, and the US.

Substrate Education: A notable percentage of participants—20.8% in Singapore and 22.5% in Bangkok—had previously attended the Substrate development course, highlighting OneBlock+’s educational influence and its role in preparing developers for the Polkadot ecosystem.

Social Media Engagement: The hackathons garnered significant social media attention, with 168K impressions for the Singapore event and 231K impressions for the Bangkok event, showcasing the widespread interest and engagement with Polkadot’s ecosystem.
