Giant Squid Phase 2 Implementation Update

We’re pleased to announce the launch of the new Giant Squid landing page. It provides direct access to on-chain data via GraphQL endpoints, supporting efficient querying and data retrieval. With Phase 2, Giant Squid now has significantly expanded indexing capabilities:

  • Support for indexing XCM (Cross-Consensus Message) transactions across chains
  • Expanded coverage to include data from the Conviction and Nomination Pools pallets
  • Indexing of APR and related metrics from the Staking pallet
  • A new History Elements table that enables comprehensive querying of historical data, including XCM calls, events, and NFTs
  • Broader NFT support, including NFTs from Polkadot’s Asset Hub, as well as ERC-721 and ERC-1155 standards

In addition to the scope, the team added an in-app user feedback functionality, allowing users to submit feature requests, report issues, and raise bug reports.

Looking ahead, we’re exploring several possible avenues, including:

  • Extending metadata support for EVM-based NFTs
  • Supporting hierarchical ERC-1155 structures
  • Indexing the new NFT pallet on Unique Network (pending approval)
  • Expanding multi-chain indexing to include Mythos and Unique Network

These are early ideas, and we are opening the conversation to the community. If you are using Giant Squid to index NFTs, XCM, or historical data (or planning to) we would like to understand what is currently missing, what is working, and where improvements would matter most. This feedback will help guide the direction forward.
