I used to hire PR agencies to get our community featured on good Brazilian web3 and tech portals, just to make sure people knew what we were building. I’m asking this because I often read global tech and crypto media and barely ever see Polkadot mentioned. Take the recent Hong Kong deal, for example—nothing.
Maybe I’m just unaware of the portals that do cover Polkadot? Otherwise, I think this is something worth doing, especially for the Hub launch. A large-scale PR push could create some real FOMO.
Is that what the Community Foundation was created for? I suppose some entity like that would be necessary to coordinate this kind of effort at scale.
For regional marketing and support you will notice entities working with Distractive and Marketing bounty, so you can also reach out to:
Polkadot Africa for Africa.
Openguild for South East Asia.
Polkaworld for China.
Polkadot APAC account is also now quite active.
In LATAM we have alot of entities helping push Polkadot have you tried connecting with them and asking? Polkadot Brasil, Sunset Labs, Trustless Core members are all over LATAM, Dotcast, Polkadot Mexico
At the moment, we’re holding our horses for the launch of Hub, and then we’re firing on all fronts. In the meantime, we (Distractive, Serotonin, Polkadot Capital Group, and smaller agencies) are disseminating news from our ecosystem.
Currently both Distractive & Serotonin are funded by the Marketing Bounty to work with various outlets to attempt to get Polkadot in the news organically.
As mentioned by @DotDotApe - we also have a wire service available for relevant news to hit the tape - although this is not as impactful as organic pickups.
There are other groups as well who pursue their own placements either for their own projects or for Polkadot coverage as well.
Overall - PR in Polkadot has been tough over the years, at one point, a full halt on any and all releases. The Marketing Bounty that was formed in late 2024 identified many issues in the prior operations and scaled back in spending until more efficient and effective channels were established.
Today we have a lean, yet impactful setup as mentioned above in this post.
As for the recent Hong Kong news - you can see the coverage here (organic aka unpaid):
Would like to re-iterate that these placements are earned and not paid - a feat not so common in the world of Polkadot PR - and we should celebrate this as the first of many to come.
The Marketing Bounty is committed to establishing a stronger earned > paid presence through fruitful endeavours, strategic partnerships and sourcing talent that can move us away from 247 paid coverage.
Slowly, but surely we will get there.
Also to note - if there is appetite for a reliable, relevant agency in LATAM with a support group of existing agents / projects / communities who can put together and pitch news stories - our door is always open for a submission as we have put effort into expanding the operations in the region for over a year now.
Yeah, I know them all, but I’m referring to PR. So there’s no Bounty or Collective coordinating marketing efforts, and each region handles it independently, right?
Nice. I completely understand the scenario and agree that paid presence isn’t sustainable long-term. Still, since the Asset Hub launch is a major event for the entire ecosystem, I think it deserves consideration—a large, coordinated campaign on key platforms
Beyond that, I believe tech forums are valuable places to maintain a presence. Smaller ones are often open to collaboration, and we could encourage more of these partnerships since they can be quite fruitful.
Good to know. I want the Asset Hub launch to succeed, and I understand the impact a global coordinated PR campaign can have. I’m just here to share ideas, and I’m sure you all would do a much better job at it than me
However - when it comes to core messaging and product marketing - this is all we know as well. I believe there is more information in this post - Polkadot Hub - Launch Campaign - #5 by Ser.Otto
Once things have been solidified and a direction is taken - more can be done from our end to facilitate what exists as the official copy and outreach.
Just to re-iterate, “The Marketing Bounty is a group of curators who applied to obtain a portion of funds to work with various creators / projects / groups within the Polkadot Ecosystem while exploring new partnerships and verticals. The mandate for messaging, branding and core product marketing is handled by an agency who is not under our control and neither is the team at Parity (engineering firm behind Polkadot).” - excerpt taken from this post - Why does Polkadot not building products? - #2 by flez
@nomadbitcoin - again, our doors our open to facilitate new partnerships where they make sense and have the support to expand operations. As long as there is demand for our news and supply in writing articles - there is a good chance of passing.
I believe some of the Brazil BD team was looking into establishing this as well as some of the LATAM agents - could be worth pursuing.
Good chat and feel free to DM to continue discussion.
