Decentralized Voices Cohort 4 - Le Nexus

Our previous application for cohort 3:

Who we are
Le Nexus is not only a Polkadot’s French-speaking community organized as a DAO, but also a legal French association.

It’s an open digital community dedicated to the French-speaking agents of the ecosystem.

As well as the many initiatives, we offer a democratic delegation pool to our members, either if they’d like to get involved in polkadot’s governance, or if they’d like to delegate their vote to a semi-democratic decision-making body, representing a heterogeneous group of what makes up the Polkadot ecosystem: agents, founders, builders, token holders, etc…

Le Nexus today

In less than 6 months, the Nexus was structured notably through the creation of a collective voting process on Discord and the setting up of an executive committee in charge of strategy.

Because we believe in setting an example and being transparent, we have created an automated image generation tool that explains each of our votes.

We became the number 1 French-speaking community talking about Polkadot.

Our participation to Cohort 3

161 votes out of 171 proposals

  • 76 Ayes
  • 68 Nays
  • 17 Abstain

There are currently 21 voters:

  • 7 from the Bureau (legal association)
  • 14 from the community

Strong internal debates:

  • 12 498 messages posted on the Nexus for Polkadot treasury proposals
  • 439 messages posted on the Nexus for the Kusama treasury proposals

Our feedbacks are all available at https://lenexus-gov.notion.site
The main important ones are posted on Polkassembly/Subsquare, and most are posted on X.

Significant growth of our social networks:

  • X account from 0 to 692
  • Discord account from 0 to 190

Extremely successful first participation in an IRL event: CryptoXR
https://x.com/lenexus_org/status/1889389695773094082

We have helped to establish partnerships from a business development perspective that could have a structuring effect on DOT’s future (Meria, Vitality and more…).

The idea of creating a physical site has been put on hold for the time being, in order to focus our efforts on improving coordination between project members and achieving smaller-scale objectives.

Our ambitions for Cohort 4

The association would like to deliver more in-house projects:

  • Be present to represent Polkadot in more IRL events
  • Creating opengov tools that can be reused by others DV recipients
  • Full time BD agent (through Phragmen for instance or from the DAO Treasury itself)
  • Bring much more French speakers in the DAO
  • Increase our social media presence with more quality content
  • Improve our feedback process during the voting process
  • Bring projects to OpenGov for sponsorships/partnerships where the DAO acts as the proposer and defend the proposal, “Designed by the community, For the community”.

Voting Philosophy

With 21 voters from a wide range of backgrounds, the debates are rich and in-depth, ensuring a fair assessment of the proposals, but our philosophy is not set in stone.
However, we will always strive to vote in the best interest of the community and the token holders.

Blockchain governance allows for rapid and dynamic changes, unlike traditional politics. Voting guidelines, inspired by past experience, evolve according to needs and lessons learned.
There will be times we agree, and times we agree to disagree. Our main policy is straightforward: convince us to vote AYE. Proposers may need to fail once, but we encourage everyone to resubmit. It’s okay to be NAY; just improve your proposal.

In short, Le Nexus combines pragmatism and diversity to stimulate growth and innovation within the ecosystem.

Why Le Nexus is the ideal candidate ?

  • Importance of the French-speaking community.
  • Several PBA graduates in the voting pool as well as a real diversity of members from agents, ambassadors, token holders, developers, team members, newbies, media.
  • Serious and reputable members within the Polkadot community.
  • A very strong voting record in our first delegation, combined with an open channel in our Discord where proposers can come and defend their proposals, as well as requesting to come to our weekly internal call for further explanations and debates.
  • A legal structure that legally represents our status as a DAO.

Thank you all for your support, and we look forward to continuing this journey with you!

Le Nexus has overall been a reasonable voice in OpenGov cohort 3 (and I am saying this as someone how’s proposals have been NAYed by LN in the past). Considering my stance on 2 term limits, they are still very much eligible to run for cohort 4.

My main concern with them is that most of their voting members are still anonymous. Now, I understand that it is not a requirement by the W3F to be fully doxxed, so they are well within their rights to use this setup. Having said that, I think it is worth pointing out the difference with for example Permanence DAO or Trustless Core, which in their application here on the forum provided all identities of their voting members. Again, I am well aware that this is optional, but it shows a different commitment to transparency in a DAO.

Hi Max,
Thx for the words.

You can have a look to our previous message for DV Cohort 3 where we gave links to our voters “identity”.
The list has changed a little bit, but 90% of it is still relevant.

The voting results show that this is a team with a highly rigorous review process, and its members are Polkadot OGs—this is truly reliable!

The real wish for change for LeNexus from us is to be more reactive to changes in the active referenda. To actively track all current referenda is a part of the DV’s job as well.

In this example where the proposer requested to be NAYed for some time now. We can’t expect for the proposers to always remove the preimage in order to nullify the vote.
