Activities from the Mexican Collective since successfully became HA

Hello dear Polkadot community!

We have created this document to inform you about what we have been working on as the Mexican Collective since we successfully became Head Ambassadors of Polkadot.

Context

All the activities described in this report correspond to Q2 and Q3 of 2024.

  • Decentralized Voices Cohort 2

On May 15, 2024, the 7 members who then made up the Mexican Collective applied for the 2nd Cohort of Decentralized Voices.

If you want to learn about our application, we leave you the link:

We have carried out this edition without any remuneration, with the sole objective of ensuring that the Mexican community had representation, voice, and vote within Polkadot’s OpenGov.

All our work as DV has been transparent, as we have consistently published the votes on our Twitter profile, now X (@PolkadotMexico_). It has also been inclusive, as through a broadcast channel we created in our Telegram group (Telegram: Contact @PolkadotMexico), members of the channel could cast their votes on the referendums we sent out weekly.

Additionally, we hold internal sessions twice a week to study, analyze, and debate the OpenGov proposals that are most controversial, in order to develop a solid criterion for voting. This is done with the aim of explaining to the proponents of referendums the reasoning behind our votes.

  • Web3 Gaming Party (workshop and Polkadot as main sponsor)

On August 17, the Web3 Gaming Party (W3GP) event took place, with over 300 attendees, and we managed to have Polkadot as the main sponsor of the event.

We also arranged for our good friend @yosoydev to give a talk about the Polkadot SDK for Unity. As a collective, we gave a talk about Mythos Chain and the games in the Polkadot ecosystem.

  • Superior School of Computing (ESCOM) of the National Polytechnic Institute.

On September 6, @w3nerick attended the Superior School of Computing of the National Polytechnic Institute as a representative of the Mexican Collective to give a talk to students about the Polkadot ecosystem, KILT, DIDs (use cases), Kappa Sigma Mu, among other topics.

Notably, this participation was attended by many students as well as public officials, which leads us to our next activity as Head Ambassadors.

  • Iztapalapa Delegation, Mexico City (integration of a social token in Polkadot)

On September 6, after @w3nerick talk at ESCOM of the IPN, federal administration personnel approached us to discuss the development of a social project in the Iztapalapa Delegation, Mexico City.

The goal is to create a token on Asset Hub that could serve the residents of Iztapalapa to access social programs, goods, food, and everything related to government public policies.

We are currently in discussions with the personnel to plan the project. In October, we plan to hold a meeting with developers to understand the timelines and costs for product development, as well as the project’s feasibility.

It is worth noting that an implementation like this would be incredible, connecting public administration with a blockchain, aimed at providing social assistance and integrating with public policies.

Our goal for the end of November is to have a viable proposal ready to begin lobbying and managing the necessary public funds, which will be allocated for the development of this implementation.

Once we finalize the planning, we will be publishing updates in this forum.

  • Wakah Chan MĂ©rida (management and participation)

On September 12, we organized an event together with several Mexican communities at the offices of Coparmex (Confederación Patronal de la República Méxicana) in the city of Mérida, Yucatán, in anticipation of Ethereum Mexico 2024.

Report (https://wakahchan-merida.my.canva.site/)

With the aim of discussing Polkadot, its native communication with Ethereum (Snowbridge), as well as updates from the ecosystem, we had an attendance of 80 people.

This event helped us connect with the communities, individuals, and business sector in MĂ©rida (Coparmex).

Hackathon Ensenada (Management and Participation of Polkadot)
We have jointly presented a proposal with Vara Network for the Spanish v2 Bounty for a Hackathon in the city of Ensenada, Baja California, on November 2 and 3.

Our goal is to grow the network of developers in our country, so they can learn about Substrate, build in our ecosystem, and add value to Polkadot.

We want to have several developers in Polkadot, like the success stories of Adrián Montero (Vara Network) and Mario (MOTOVERSE), students from the Polkadot Blockchain Academy.

Once the event takes place, we will report the evidence in this forum.

  • Decentralized Voices Cohort 3

On September 24, we presented together with prominent members of Polkadot in Argentina and Brazil the proposal as “Polkadot Latam Collective” for Cohort 3 of Decentralized Voices.

We leave you the official proposal here:

Our goal is to empower Latin America in Polkadot’s open governance, giving it a voice and vote as well as dignified representation. After our participation in Cohort 2, we aim to do an even better job this time, as we understand how the voting system works and have the experience of analyzing referendums, lobbying, and management.

We will continue to uphold the values of the previous edition: Transparency, Inclusion, and Empowerment.

  • NerdConf MTY (Participation)
On October 3 and 4, two members of the Mexican Collective, @w3nerick and @amaurylr, will participate in the event organized by the “NerdConf” team based in Monterrey. They will present talks on “Introduction to Web3 and OpenGov as a form of governance,” aimed at introducing what Web3 is from scratch for those not familiar with the ecosystem, and then discussing what OpenGov is in Polkadot and how it operates in daily practice for all of us in the Polkadot ecosystem, inviting more people to join.

Additionally, since attendees from various business and economic sectors are expected, there will be a talk on “Decentralized Digital Identities and Fundraising in Web3,” aimed at helping them understand the use cases for blockchains and how companies can adopt these technologies, mentioning one of the most widely adopted cases in the ecosystem with the globally recognized company “Deloitte.”

  • Main Hackathon CDMx January (Management and Participation)
We are working on a proposal in collaboration with Vara Network to hold the Main Hackathon at ITAM in Mexico City. For this particular event, some members of our Mexican Collective will participate in the complete organization and management of the event, which will focus on students, developers, and enthusiasts of the ecosystem, who will be supported by mentors and trained personnel to help them develop and program their projects using blockchain technology.

  • Polkadot Sponsor at Talent Land (Management and Negotiation)
On September 12, José Rodríguez (Pimpo) attended our Wakah Chan event in Mérida, where he informed us that discussions were open to participate as a sponsor for the Talent Land 2025 edition, to be held in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

The goal is to obtain a space at Talent Land to set up our stand, as well as for projects from the ecosystem, a talk on the Main Stage (for someone from Web3Foundation or a prominent member of the ecosystem to come), and to brand the event with Polkadot.

Currently, Talent Land has a massive reach (30 million people reached in the 2023 edition), which leads us to believe that we can achieve one of the most impactful sponsorships ever seen in the ecosystem, as it is an event well-known among technology companies and universities.

We will present the official proposal in the coming months, as the next edition is in April 2025, and we need to submit the Events Bounty or OpenGov proposal while fine-tuning details with those who will be giving the talk on the Main Stage.

As a collective, we want to thank everyone who has shown support and has placed their trust in our work. We are working on behalf of all of you and seek to demonstrate our efforts through actions rather than words. We always invite the entire community to join us in the various activities we will carry out over the coming months, as well as to connect with our diverse communication channels to stay updated on the latest news and upcoming events.
