Grey/JAR is an alternative proposal for the Polkadot JAM upgrade. For this, we developed JAVM, and proved two points via our compute and blob size benchmarks:
JAVM is up to 2x faster than PolkaVM for certain workloads.
Our standard RISC-V ISA blob size is 20% smaller than PolkaVM’s PVM ISA.
However, during the past months, instead of technical arguments, we received several accounts from the PolkaVM authors accusing us that we used AI, in order to attack our characters:
The goal of this post is not to “return the accusations” (which would be a violations of the moderation rules). However, we do want to clear the fact and inform the community that we found evidences that PolkaVM also uses Claude/AI. There’s nothing wrong about that, but that shouldn’t be used as an argument against us.
We treat this as a community service – by properly informing the community on the AI usage of PolkaVM, we make it so that PolkaVM authors cannot hide under the “you used AI” accusations moving forward, and must engage with real arguments on technical merits. So far, we have really not received technical arguments, but only accusations like the above.
In addition, we found several scripts in Parity’s projects which strip out AI attribution. This simply means not having “Claude” in their contributor list (which is indeed the case) does not mean they didn’t use AI.
By itself of course no. You probably don’t have the context because Koute’s personal attack post is currently hidden. (Nevertheless, you do find two other accounts of this directly stated in the background section.)
The post is made to state the hard facts so that those personal attacks by the PolkaVM authors are just no longer even possible.
I think a lot of people up to now that are using AI understand how AI is working. AI is just a tool and nothing else. AI doesn’t change that you will need to still review closely on what it is doing when you want to ensure that the results are correct.
Generally I don’t understanding on what you are trying to achieve here. If you want to contribute technically, start proper discussions and not just always “XYZ is faster under certain loads than ZYX”. This is not a technical discussion, this is just to show off. Maybe I missed it, but I did not see you trying to contribute to the graypaper or PolkaVM. If you are interested in them and want them to improve, please bring up these proposals. Otherwise I would propose to you that you just move ahead and do your stuff. There is no point in you constantly trying to show off and then complaining that you are getting censored when you are breaking the forum rules. There are rules and you need to follow them or your posts are deleted. This is how forums are working, since ever. If you don’t like this, you do not need to post here. But removing these posts is not “censoring” or whatever. Because as you are seeing up to this point, all your show off posts are still there and no one deleted them.
You’re correct we aren’t trying to “contribute to graypaper or PolkaVM”. Instead, JAR/Grey is an alternative proposal to Polkadot JAM. Polkadot is a decentralized community. This means that no one needs to stay in “your” framework to develop on Polkadot.
Gavin has been pretty clear about this – JAM is a protocol and it’s the DOTDAO who can choose to adopt it. DOTDAO can also chose to adopt JAR/Grey as the alternative proposal (in our ways, we have made it so that there will be no JAMKB complications, no token launches, so it’s actually an attractive solution to DOT holders).
JAM itself can also be launched, as Gavin himself stated, by other teams to other chains. The same for JAR/Grey – it is also a protocol which means it can also be its own L1. We made it coinless and anti-capture, and we’re developing that within the framework of Alley OS.
We aren’t trying to “show off”. We’re developing a better technical solution than Polkadot JAM and we believe, especially because we don’t plan on JAMKB, this will be better for DOT holders. Plus our VM, compared with PolkaVM, has performance and blob size advantages.
You’re right we weren’t censored. What got censored started from Koute’s (PolkaVM author) personal attack posts (A reminder on what this forum is for). The current forum post is simply fact stating so that any such personal attacks will just factually not be possible from now on.
