After a few years of building, maintaining, and growing Polkadart, I’m excited to announce that I’m transferring ownership of the project to justkawal (Kawal).
This isn’t a goodbye, it’s the next chapter.
Why Now?
When I started contributing to Polkadart back in 2022 with @Lohann, the goal was simple: bring Dart and Flutter developers into the Polkadot ecosystem.
At the time, there wasn’t a native Dart library that could properly interact with Polkadot-based chains.
Thanks to support from the Web3 Foundation, we built a complete library all from a single Dart codebase. No bidings, no FFI, no complex setup.
The library has grown significantly. We now have over 11 packages and a smoldot package arriving soon.
But as my focus shifted to other responsibilities, I realized Polkadart deserves someone who can give it the dedicated attention it needs to continue evolving.
Why justkawal?
If you’ve been around the Dart ecosystem, you probably already know Kawal’s work. He’s the creator of the popular excel package, a library used by thousands of developers for reading and manipulating Excel files in Dart and Flutter. More importantly, he’s been an active contributor to Polkadart itself.
Kawal understands both the Dart ecosystem deeply and has already demonstrated commitment to maintaining open-source projects long-term.
What This Means for the Community
For existing users: nothing changes.
Polkadart will continue to work exactly as it does today. The same APIs, the same packages, the same permissive Apache 2.0 license.
The library remains fully open-source, and contributions from the community are still very much welcome.
Thank You
Building Polkadart has been one of the most rewarding projects I’ve worked on. I want to thank the Web3 Foundation for believing in the vision early on, and every developer who opened an issue, submitted a PR, or simply tried the library and gave feedback.
To Kawal: good luck, and long live open source ![]()
