Announcing Polkadot Cloud Website Development Project (Phase 1: Q2 2025)

Hello Polkadot community!

We are pleased to propose the Polkadot Cloud Website Development Project, an initiative focused on developing a state-of-the-art platform showcasing the extensive suite of services offered by Polkadot Cloud (e.g., execution, settlement, data availability, object storage).

Problem + Solution

Decentralized cloud platforms like Akash and Spheron are quickly gaining traction, while major incumbents like Google’s Web3 Cloud Portal fail to mention Polkadot entirely. No dedicated platform exists for developers or enterprises to explore Polkadot Cloud offerings, significantly limiting visibility and adoption.

To maintain its competitive edge, Polkadot needs a dedicated website that clearly communicates its cloud infrastructure, capabilities, and advantages to developers, enterprises, and the broader Web3 ecosystem. With approval of this referendum, we will build a world-class digital presence that cements Polkadot’s leadership in decentralized cloud solutions — ensuring Polkadot Cloud remains top of mind.

Why a Dedicated Cloud Website?

:small_blue_diamond: Enterprise Adoption – Attracts businesses & devs exploring Web3 cloud solutions.
:small_blue_diamond: Tangible Reality – Turns Polkadot Cloud from concept → real, actionable product.
:small_blue_diamond: Competitive Edge – Positions Polkadot as the leading decentralized cloud.
:small_blue_diamond: Decentralization – Reduces dependency on a single website/controller.

What is Polkadot Cloud?

Polkadot Cloud is the next-gen decentralized cloud for Web3 builders—offering execution, settlement, data availability, object storage, and more to rival Web2 giants like AWS & Google Cloud. By leveraging the Polkadot Cloud, developers can deploy any Web3 application easily, affordably, and at scale.

:globe_with_meridians: Polkadot.cloud will serve as the official portal for:
:heavy_check_mark: Cloud services overview & explorer
:heavy_check_mark: Coretime/blockspace reservations
:heavy_check_mark: Performance metrics & comparisons
:heavy_check_mark: Enterprise/developer onboarding

Phase 1 Deliverables (MVP):

:white_check_mark: Fully responsive, professionally-designed website
:white_check_mark: CMS for exploring Polkadot Cloud services
:white_check_mark: Interactive performance charts showcasing tech capabilities
:white_check_mark: Case studies per industry (e.g., Mythos, HydraDX, Phala)
:white_check_mark: Coretime/blockspace access (via RegionX)
:white_check_mark: Localization support

Why Now?

:small_orange_diamond: Buzz around Polkadot Cloud is growing rapidly—but no tangible offering exists today.
:small_orange_diamond: Google Cloud, AWS, etc are moving into Web3—but they aren’t including Polkadot.
:small_orange_diamond: Akash & Spheron are gaining traction in the decentralized/web3 cloud space.
:small_orange_diamond: Polkadot Cloud needs a strong presence to defend its leadership position.

We’re looking for feedback & community support ahead of the referendum. Together we can make Polkadot Cloud truly amazing.

Looks really nice and valid points! Goodluck :art:

I don’t understand why this is a separate website and not part of polkadot.com. This looks like more fragmentation to me.

Polkadot.com is still not open source or allows contributions from the ecosystem…

So how could anyone build something for it?

Anyway, really like the ideas in this proposal, and I hope to see it live soon!

Good point, I thought it would be open source by now, ugh.

This is very nice.

Can’t wait to see it

@flez I think I heard from someone else that you don’t use a regular web framework for developing this site.

Can you elaborate quickly on that? It would be pretty important for any such site to be setup in a way to get open source contributions and feedback from the community.

Hey @shawntabrizi, nothing out of the ordinary. I think the confusion may be that I’ve swapped Figma for Framer on the design side? Framer is my go-to because it’s in a league of its own for design (lightyears ahead of Figma in my opinion) and offers native React code from the start.

My dev partner crafts components in Framer just like any standard setup, and with a ~$250 React Export plugin (React Export — Framer Marketplace), we can push clean React to a GitHub repo in a few clicks.

For the Phase 1 MVP, this plan excels because it allows me and another dev to build a top-tier website quickly and affordably, with no compromise on quality.

And remember once it’s in React, Framer or Figma fades out — it’s just code from there!

(By Phase 2, once the MVP is live, none of this will matter)

I believe Polkadot Cloud Contribution Program (Contribution Program – Polkadot Cloud Docs) will handle refinements, with some code going public on GitHub while we shield raw/Framer files from copycats.

Best,
