Wanted to introduce the concept of a separate UDP type concept to Polkadot.
When I look at the consensus layer of Polkadot I think of TCP in many ways: long term three validators per core (i.e., more than one), validators have to provide financial backing that can be slashed (i.e., bonded), each validator group has backups for redundancy, in the future multiple clients will exist, and location of validator nodes are tracked to ensure decentralization in both geographic location and datacenter (if applicable).
However, I see no reason Polkadot can’t implement a separate UDP type network. I could imagine that this could be done via a system parachain that registers additional validators however, the consensus rules would be drastically different and done under “best effort” using one validator. Obviously this would not be a priority now given that if CoreJAM is successful, 1.7M transactions would be theoretically possible and that limit would not be hit in the nearish future. But something to keep in mind.
