A Step Towards Solving User Fragmentation?

Taken from the Polkadot Cloud Thread by S.Tabrizi.

BEGIN EXCERPT - - -

If we (as users) could have a place (on DESKTOP) where all the features are available for usage of the DOT token in a super simple, 1 click easy way - this could solve an immense amount of fragmentation issues.

Stake
Vote
Swap
Hold (Wallet)
Lend / Borrow (direct off hydration)
Bridge
Data (Analytics)
Block Explorer

All things that many of our internal wallet teams (including JS) have available - as one coherent unit, could really help the user experience for things like - Assethub & USDT or airdrops from chains that are difficult to claim.
Single-click staking or SwipeGov - amazing features.
Metamask & EVM support for tokens outside of Polkadot.
Bridging - easy to use and secured by Polkadot - how wonderful.
Debit Card with Nova Signup
Rewards with Polkadot App Download

***A one stop shop could really make the user feel like they are using Polkadot and many of the features, from one place, instead of having to figure out where else to go to use them.

Ontop of this - we could add all the amazing documentation, the wiki, tutorials, news updates, governance updates, Live Chat for Help (??)

Developer Portal for builders / Appchain creation with Tanssi
(Could even get creative with this and have a native non-opengov individual based funding system to promote / present / claim the work for posted app ideas like on buildondot.com)

Anything to decrease the user dropoff would be welcome.

Adding to this thought - I believe there is a way to cross Native Polkadot features and Cloud (rollups) services, which inherently increases the usage of DOT as DOT (through *the portal) would be the first point of contact - by offering some of the very great features available from other chains.

For example:
Direct Liquid Staking of Bifrost VDOT or Stella stDOT
Offering Polimec Funding Rounds direct from the Hub
Marketplace listings from Kodadot or Mythical
Marketplace with Region X & Lastic (Crazy!!!)
Social Profiles with MeWe
Multisig with Multix
Game Portal with Ajuna & Mythical
MemePad Portal
RWA Investments with Centrifuge
AI Chatbots with Origin Trail

Essentially, however we can start consolidating the Polkadot end user features into one place, the better - this would make the Polkadot user experience very competitive with other chains.

Finally, the informative nature of having a live news feed, dedicated & informative pages for projects on Polkadot Cloud will help create interest between different projects built on the network - further solidifying the interest of the user to build, explore and be part of this growing community (might even be a organic sales pitch for building on Cloud itself, too)

Once projects start seeing this collaborative, unified portal into the world of Polkadot - I believe it will all start to ‘make sense’ - and we would see a rush of new activity from users, developers, speculators and all else coming to our world.

Cheers.
Juba

Final Note: As time is of the essence - even a basic window like the metamask portfolio page would make sense to start, with the rest of features added on the go - maybe even OpenSource?

There is a reason why Metamask and CEX’s have users - not only are they necessary to hold / trade tokens with -

They are very, veryeasy to use.

Yes, one desktop & Mobile superapp like you proposed, together with the unified PLAZA Parachain. There shouldnt be all this UI fragmentation. I myself after 7 years in crypto stopped using anything except for trading and staking on CEX-es because the overall blockchain UI+experience just sucks so much. I have dozens of handwritten seeds, hardwarewallets and all the likes. At one point I decided to just stop this mess, send it all to Binance where I get great staking rates on almost anything, and it is almost immediately liquid & tradable, and all is managed under 1 single login. I’ve been saying this for years: please make 1 Polkadot Superapp, that allows the use of most of it parachains functions under 1 simple interface. PLEASE…

Although there are many people who would debate against using a CEX - I too believe that the fragmentation causes a ton of confusion and user drop-off.

I’m more propososing a CEX like experience that stays true to the decentralized & resilient framework of the network - just making it easier to use.

Furthermore - I think we are overlooking the power of networks effects of having all the features available from the same place.

Think about for a minute -

DMARKET - https://dmarket.com/
2M users, big into gaming, owned and operate by the Mythical Chain - people selling multi-thousans dollars in gaming skins. There is an entire new user base to tap into right there.

POLIMEC - https://app.polimec.org/
Funding rounds bring massive awareness. Also, they are going multi-chain. The cross awareness of Polkadot and all the attention around decentralized fundraising could be a big win.

The big idea here is that there is interconnectivity between a ‘superapp’ and all the native polkadot features PLUS the cloud rollups, as this highway is a two street.

Users spread their attention and funds from 1 point, out into the cloud and then return back to their home, on Polkadot, where they can see everything going on in the Ecosystem and keep up with the happenings, news, governance, prices etc.

Literally a game changer imo.

Not sure if we are thinking the same things here, but the product that comes to mind from reading this is:

  • some native container mobile / desktop application
  • container app manages your account and can sign transactions
  • allows people to program sub-applications which can be installed and launched from the container app
    • built safe so that these apps are all sandboxed, and can only request transaction signing from the container app
    • ideally super opinionated, so that the feel and ux across apps feel similar, even if they are made by totally different teams
  • app store, ratings, etc…

@shawntabrizi - that sounds quite incredible.

your idea sounds like ‘DappBay’ by BNC Binance Chain

I think a platform like this would be very welcome in the world of Polkadot.

The original post is about an even broader single point of entry for all things Polkadot.
‘Dapp Bay’ (Polkadot Version) would be one of the features in this sphere.

As a long time user I really think Binance has nailed the user experience - especially with the additions of the ‘Square & More Features’ sections - They (like Polkadot) have been copied relentlessly by others.

Boasting 200M users on their platform - there really is no surprise. They even have a Polkadot section and were one of the first to offer crowdloans!

I think a platform like this would do us wonders - Dapp Bay (Polkadot Version) included.

Cheers

Good post here by M.Bennallack from Mandala chain about (in specific) fragmentation.

A Polkadot (Online) Desktop Terminal for all things Polkadot (Binance type interface) would do wonders.

At the very least, Open sourcing the website to create an integrated Polkadot wallet and usage landing page would be a great start.

There was a wish for change requesting this in September, so we must be nearing that once the team responsible for V.1 of Polkadot.com has completed their tests.

Future is bright.

Is this opensourcing the Polkadot.com website the same as building a Polkadot desktop and mobile terminal / superapp where the main functions of most of it’s parachains, PLAZA, wallets and other (future) services are just 1-click available? Because this is what is really needed. And preferably the option to make/create a new account and wallet through the big social web-2 services like Goolge, Facebook etc. without even having to write down a seed phrase. Later in-App reminders can remind users if they want to upgrade their security level and actually write down seed phrases, or recreate a new account with higher safety standards. But for getting mass adoption the Polkadot unified Desktop and Mobile Terminal should also offer a 1-click account/wallet creation without even bothering people with seedphrases to copy-paste or write down if they want so. More advanced users can be offered to write down seeds, and other stuff if needed.
