New to Polkadot – Best Way to Actively Contribute or Get Involved?

Hi all!

I’m relatively new to the Polkadot community, and I’ve been taking some time to learn about parachains, governance, and staking. The technology that backs Polkadot is seriously amazing, and I can see why it’s building the foundations for a more scalable, interoperable web3.

All that being said, I’m really excited to do more than simply read and watch. From a community and developer perspective, what’s the best way to begin actively contributing? Whether it’s open-source dev work, community support, governance involvement, or assisting new users—where do I start?

Also, is there a list of beginner-friendly projects or working groups that accept contributions from people who are still learning but enthusiastic?

Value any advice, direction, or personal experience you can provide. Looking forward to being a member of the growth here.

Thanks ahead of time!

did you check https://docs.polkadot.com/ yet?

GM Mathew,
the community is spread out, but I’d join the TG group: @PolkadotOfficial and Discord.
When it comes to contributing, you should check out the latest “OpenDev Core Call” to see what’s going on.

Also, check out the current jobs at Web3 Foundation and Parity.

Happy contributing and welcome aboard!

do we have a “starters” guide to the ecosystem? :eyes: if not its a good idea to have one.

To speak to dev work -

If you’d like to help out at the federal level you can look for tasks in the polkadot-sdk. There’s tasks marked with good first issue. I would also recommend just generally taking a look at the parity roadmap. Here are some super simple tasks that would be good starters - removing getters, migrate to umbrella crate.

I would wrap your head around the idea that initially most of your time during these tasks will be spent learning, but that assuages with time.

If you’d like to work at the local level - find a project that speaks to you and check out their issue board. As there’s usually some simple tasks on there as well.

You guys all know that “Mattew” is here just to have a minimal presence on the forum and share links to the posts of the content his agency is managing for their clients, right?

Hence the reason why the first topic he posted without any context, full AI generated (or a template like this one) and with a link to a totally unrelated external post was deleted.

In any case, great responses! This shows how active and open this forum really is :revolving_hearts:
