Polkadot Coretime Renewals

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share that it’s time for the first teams to renew their cores on Polkadot! Similarly to what has been done before for Kusama, I wanted to publicly share which teams need to renew their cores on Polkadot.

As a reminder, here’s how the schedule looks like for renewing a core. During the renewal period there’s no competition with any other team for your core, and you renew at a known price. However if for any reason you don’t renew your core during this window, then the core will be offered for a public sale. Your could still renew your core whilst available for a known price, but someone can potentially but it before you can renew. It is important to know that all the parachains that have a running core now, still have it until the end of this region, independently of renewing or not. Renewing is executed in advance, affecting the following cycle.

The renewal window opened at the Coretime chain block 301,117 and will last until the Coretime chain block 351,517.

Cores allowed for Renewal

The following teams must renew their cores in this cycle:

The cost of renewal for all these cores is 100 DOT.

Renewals going forward

Going forward, there will be an automatic renewal functionality on the Broker pallet that would allow users to subscribe to renewals. By knowing in advance the cost of renewing, teams can fund an account with as much DOT they want for the time they want to renew and allow the pallet to do the rest. This is being implemented here .

A comment on OnDemand

In the last ~3days, there were around 640 orders placed for OnDemand block execution on the relay chain. This functionality allows parachain teams to request the relay chain for the execution of one block of their parachain, and they can request as many as they want.
Both Composable Finance and Integritee needed to swap their leases, which required them to send an XCM from a chain without a core. Therefore, by requesting Coretime OnDemand, they could get one block of execution for their parachain without a core to send the XCM instruction that allowed for swapping with a core holding paraID.
This is a very valid way of advancing a parachain that needs a core but might be waiting to get hold of a core in bulk in a future sale or similar.

Please post any questions on this thread if help is needed.
