MiD (My Decentralized Face Identity) is a face-authenticated login and identity system for Polkadot and Substrate-based dApps.

Instead of remembering passwords or constantly signing with your wallet, MiD lets you navigate, verify, and approve actions with your Face ID — all while keeping your biometric data stored locally in your browser (your face template never leaves your device).

What MiD Does
Frictionless dApp Access: Log in to Polkadot and Substrate-based dApps without constant wallet signature prompts - your face does the work.

Secure Action Approval: Confirm sensitive actions like governance voting, token transfers, or multisig approvals with your face ID.

Bot & Sybil Protection: Verify real human presence in DAOs, airdrops, and incentive programs.

Cross-dApp Identity: Maintain a persistent, face-verified identity across multiple dApps without exposing wallet addresses.

Multi-Wallet Management: Links and switch between multiple wallets through one face-authenticated profile.

Seed Phrase Recovery (Optional): Allows you to encrypt your seed phrase with a key derived from your face match + wallet signature, store it locally and in an encrypted backup on Crust, unlocking instantly on face match.

Problems MiD Solves
Seed Phrase Mismanagement – Millions of wallets and billions in assets are lost every year due to forgotten or misplaced seed phrases.

Friction in Web3 Access – Onboarding often means repetitive wallet signatures and complex UI flows that frustrate new users.

Multi-Device Identity Continuity – Switching devices usually means re-importing seed phrases and losing access history.

Cross-dApp Identity Consistency – Wallets are isolated identities; MiD enables recognition across dApps without revealing addresses.

How MiD Serves Polkadot
Better UX: Removes friction in logging in, signing transactions, and accessing dApps.

Thanks for the interest! Here’s a quick breakdown of how we’re approaching MiD’s technical side:

Local-First Biometrics
MiD stores facial biometrics locally — your face template never leaves your device. We use browser-based models (e.g., face-api.js) to generate the template during enrollment.

Wallet Connection
During setup, your face template is linked to your Polkadot wallet. On login or action approval, a fresh scan is matched against the stored template before access is granted.

Frictionless Access
For any login request or seed phrase autofill (optional feature), MiD can decrypt and provide the credentials locally after a successful face match.

Developer Integration
Through the MiD SDK, developers can easily gate governance votes, token transfers, NFT mints, and other sensitive actions behind MiD’s face-auth verification — adding both Proof-of-Personhood and anti-Sybil protection.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Rowland who put up this post during the women in Polkadot call. I understand we have been moving to Asset Hub, however that doesn’t remove the logical need for this tech.

I feel strongly that people with desire to push these technologies into Polkadot to get the network up to date, should be Sub0 candidates and workshop recipients! Sub0 should be a collection of the Doer’s and brightest minds in Polkadot tech will be there, so it should help lift ideas and projects forward. Not just speakers on a stage, but engagement workshops. Please excuse my ignorance if this is how Sub0 works already.
