GM GM,
For those who don’t know me yet, I’m Eric, an ecosystem evangelist at Distractive, and I’m the go-to person for ecosystem projects for getting marketing support.
I’m trying out a new format where I’m approachable for all questions regarding marketing for Polkadot.
Let me know what you would like to know.

As a fan of the Unchained Podcast by Laura Shin, i was happy to see that Polkadot was presented as an official sponsor of the show.
How did that deal happen, meaning the decision process?
Who made the decision at the end to sponsor her show?
Did one person decide it or was Parity or the Web3 Foundation behind it?
Can you provide feedback and numbers about the initially expected results and the final results of the sponsorship?

Hey Babes,
You’re referring to this proposal from Laura, right? It’s good to know that you liked it. Which parts did you like the most?
It was before my time, but from what I heard, this started with good intentions but lacked the necessary involvement of Polkadot experts in creating the Podcast because it got lots of things wrong.
This proposal showed that bounties could handle such services better because a counterpart can fine-tune such deals with the amount of content asked.
The new Marketing Bounty received a new proposal from the Unchained Podcast, but it was rejected due to past experiences.
If anyone would re-engage with them, I’d suggest that this sponsorship is stretched to more frequent appearances over a more extended period to build up market penetration, have a dedicated Polkadot expert involved in guiding and briefing the hosts, as well as provide CTAs to turn the attention into wallet downloads.

I am always fascinated instead of we going to look for partners, they come to us.
This dynamic will always favor the objectives of others, instead of our objectives, particularly if they set the price.

I wasn’t aware that she applied for funding via OpenGov. Thanks for clarifying!
So my question would be then, if there were sponsoring deals managed by Distractive and if you can give us examples of such deals that resulted in better than expected results or the opposite?

Yes, that’s fascinating, but it always needs someone to do due diligence and negotiate or scope the project to fit our ecosystem. Many that come to us don’t have an idea where to start or what our needs are.

Generally speaking, we supported past sponsorships, especially with press releases, created illustrations, engaged them on our socials and messaging, and even fixed some strategic questions of the proposal.
Every team that reaches out first to us to review their proposal would put their ideas on a firmer foundation, but this would fill my week with just OpenGov proposal meetings. Hence, we can only make better proposals after they’ve passed.

The Ledger giveaway got a lot of traction from what I saw, good campaign. Did you also collab / hype-up the give away from The Dots? I think their prices are quite nice as well: x.com
One general Q: How are the non-english channels managed? Is it also done by you?
Just asking since there are a lot of spanish speakers interested in blockchain.
