Dear Community, far and wide, who have no doubt been following the back and forth and ups and downs of the past few days for the Head Ambassador collective.
Following yesterday’s regrouping call, which follows a request from some to come together despite differences and find a third path, a larger group than 10 has come together to discuss the below plan. We will present this in full to the community following another meeting on Friday 4 October at 1200 UTC. During this meeting we will finalise both the composition and focus of the collective and working groups. We are sharing ahead of time in the spirit of full transparency and welcoming constructive feedback. This is not another inflammatory move, rather a positive result of a tumultuous shake up.
Refs. 1186, 1189, 1195 and 1197 are on-chain and voting is in session, with one of these set to pass in <10 days. We (the final names to be confirmed on Friday when the 20 HAs have had a chance to reflect on everything that has happened) are coming together to forge a way forward. Whether that be for the long term or leaving a legacy for the next programme, we want to make our time count and prove what we have done and what we are capable of achieving.
Details:
We have until Friday to agree on the Kickstart Programme and form a new group out of the 20 people. Those who want to commit to being part of a new initiative will complete the following by 1100 UTC and join a group call at 1200 UTC on Friday 4 October.
Those that attend the meeting on Friday 4 October at 1200 UTC are committing to the following:
Complete transparency moving forward, putting the shake up aside, to build something out of the ashes. This begins with completing all of the above prior to the meeting and communicating only on Discord for the planning portion of the 100 day plan (there may be a need for TG groups later on, which is natural), but if we are to gain the support of the community for this, we need to be upfront with every thought and discussion.
Working diligently to deliver the 100-day plan and craft a new referendum for this group to deliver the plan from 1 November 2024 - 31 January 2025.
Ignore or vote nay on all other referenda which have been submitted. This includes referenda 1186, 1189, 1195 and 1197. The same rules apply to any additional referenda posted.
No private collaborations with others in the collective, side groups or individuals within the community who do not support this way forward.
Understanding that the role of an HA is multi-faceted. We must be able to operate as a collective to drive a programme for other Ambassadors forward. We must contribute in smaller working groups to push forward the five pillars of the 100 day plan. We must excel as individuals in our fields of expertise for which we were primarily elected. This is required for both the planning and execution of the 100-day plan but also for the collective and therefore programme to succeed overall.
Just finished watching the one-hour discussion on AAG and, oh-boy, was I happy to hear there is a path forward, planned together! It is still possible that it goes back to mudslinging, but I have my trust in each and every one of you to keep it civil and constructive.
Here’s my summary / understanding / highlights of the conversation:
Forging ahead together: Regardless of how the various on-chain proposals turn out, the team is moving ahead with their 100-day plan and the light-weight working group structure. That’s massive!
Re-design the flawed program: Super happy to learn that the team has decided to re-work the flaws of the 487 that initially focused solely on outreach and made it all about hunger games.
Minimal structure and management: One of the design principles seems to be to keep the overhead and bureaucracy low and to incentivize positive action. You need some structure and some management but not too much of it.
Bring in stability and agility: People seem to like the Gov1 council-model (proposed by @bkchr) and (s)electing people into coordinator/management positions for a limited term, hence providing them with some “job security” in form of a salary, to make sure the job gets done. @shawntabrizi suggested they could claim up to 10K a month, based on real expenses, introducing flexibility and agility.
Funding for all ambassadors: It is not only head ambassadors who need to be incentivized and ambassador treasury needs to be in place before re-election. Then again, we are not limited to just this form of funding but other ambassadors can be incentivized on a case-by-case basis via Tips, Proposals and Bounties as well.
Define, measure and re-adjust: We need common terminology, clear roles and expectations, as well as a way to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of both the individual ambassadors and the milestones of the collective. Promotions and demotions should happen based on merits, in a planned way, that doesn’t put too much burden on the OpenGov or the Fellowship Admin track. It is important to remember that ambassadors are there to grow, educate and represent the ecosystem. There can be other roles that make the ambassadors even more successful.
We are just beginning to figure out how to lead this decentralized movement, but today you can be proud of coming together on the same side. Thank you all for that!
Afternoon again, what a week! Another day, another ref Quick update: we will be submitted both our collective and individual reports for Q3 here and on the forum on Monday 7 October at 1700 UTC. Please be sure to make them your bedtime reading! We have also finished another call in which we discussed a path forward in more detail. More to follow on Monday.
Have a great weekend
Small update: Given the ups and downs of last week and the request of the collective to take the weekend to reflect on a path forward, we will now be posting the reports here and on Discord at 1300 UTC tomorrow, Tuesday 8 October. Thanks for bearing with us!
