dotID v2 is live - The Complete Identity Hub for Polkadot & Kusama

dotID started as a simple identity registrar platform. You can read our previous forum post for more background and our efforts to keep the registry up to date.

dotID is now steadily evolving into a central identity hub for the Polkadot ecosystem, helping users visualize, set, manage, and clear their on-chain identities.

Thanks to our special registrar status, granted by OpenGov, we also handle identity judgements on Polkadot (ref 1803) and Kusama (ref 626).

Recently, dotID was granted an additional OpenGov-approved status as a username authority, allowing us to provide users with .id usernames for their wallets on Polkadot People Chain (ref 1898) and an equivalent referendum is currently being voted on Kusama (ref 656). Expect this to be the next feature we will release. Follow @dotid_app for updates.

New Release, Brand New User Experience

Today we have released dotID v2, featuring a new design, bug fixes, improved UI/UX, a detailed guide for setting up Polkadot identities, and new on-chain identity features, such as avatars and verified PGP.

We have rebuilt almost everything for a brand new user experience.

You’re not a wallet address. You’re someone. dotID v2 is live:

All verifications (email, socials, PGP…) are automated and can be completed within minutes on our web application. You can earn a Reasonable or KnownGood judgement on-chain, and show others you’re reliable. Claim your on-chain identity today.

These judgements are decentralized, recognized at the protocol level, and officially issued by dotID as an authorized identity authority on both Polkadot and Kusama.

dotID is private and fast by default: we now run our own RPC nodes. Still free. Still non-custodial. Fully yours.

Recently, dotID was granted an additional OpenGov-approved status as a username authority, allowing us to provide users with .id usernames for their wallets on Polkadot People Chain (ref 1898) and Kusama People Chain (ref 656).

Usernames are now live! :tada:

If your identity has been verified by dotID you can now claim a free, human-readable .id username like alice.id, straight from your profile. No more sharing a 48-character address.

We’ll be handling username requests on a first-come, first-served basis. Usernames are manually approved, so please be patient; we’ll try to handle all requests within 24 hours. If your username request was rejected or still not handled after 24 hours, feel free to contact us.

In order to know if your username was accepted you have a few options:

A few rules with usernames on Polkadot and Kusama:

  1. Usernames are unique, decentralized, and stamped on-chain. Your username is yours, no one else’s.

  2. To obtain one, you have to ask for it; no authority can force a username on you.

  3. To remove or change it, you also have to ask for it; you cannot do it directly yourself. Please pay attention when choosing your username; changing it or removing it afterwards isn’t straightforward!

  4. We, as the authority for .id usernames on Polkadot and Kusama, provide usernames to accounts with a valid identity judgement on-chain. Make sure to verify your identity first before requesting a username.

  5. In the beginning, each username is manually approved to prevent abuse. Please be patient!

Your username resolves to your wallet address on-chain. Sharing your short username, such as alice.id, is equivalent to sharing your wallet public address.
