Why not have a slogan for Polkadot?

Good ideas @flez!
I believe the product is still in development, as is the one-liner ideation :D! I’m sharing your input with the teams

Slogan: Polkadot for the People.

I also like the suggested slogan: “Freedom for builders" which already lost in a multiple choice questionary by @BabesPapes

1 microdot = 1 microdot

That’s the one that makes sense.

I see lots of great suggestions here, and arguments for and against them, often using different criteria. Is there a risk that without agreed criteria, we can not agree a slogan?

Here are some meta-thoughts that (if valid) might help with choosing a slogan for Polkadot.

It’s a big decision, and by no means an easy one. We could agree that no slogan or multiple slogans are best. What would that tell us about Polkadot’s overall strategy?

I don’t pretend to have the answers, but I do think it’s a valuable conversation.

Currently

Many traditional brands have a slogan that communicates the essence of their brand. Like many other blockchains, Polkadot lacks a slogan. The name Polkadot, the logo and visual branding, are recognisable and consistent across many places, but there is no short text that consistently accompanies them.

Compared with many other blockchains, Polkadot is more technologically advanced, but lags in mindshare and adoption.

Hypothesis

If Polkadot had a slogan, more institutions, builders and users – from web3 and web2 – would understand and adopt Polkadot.

Acceptance criteria

A Polkadot slogan should:

  • encapsulate Polkadot’s specific value proposition
  • build on existing messaging work
  • work for both web3 and web2 audiences
  • work for institutions, builders and users
  • be catchy, and apt to Polkadot’s vibe
  • reflect Polkadot now, and its roadmap
  • reflect both utility and non-functional properties
