Parity is definitively hiring developers and senior dev, tpm or managers.
What we observed:
- Junior devs are relatively easy to find and PBA did help there. Surprisingly we do not find SRE, Security engineers or Mobile devs as easily as core devs.
- We do pay well and compensation is not an issue (or rarely). Some blockchains do pay better than us but we are not too far off. Sometimes people will just go for a higher offer with something on top and for this ones we do not fight.
- Senior people: here things are a lot more complicated. If they are not from web3, there is a lot of questions on “why polkadot?”, “what’s your business model?”, “how much is it a scam?” etc We are not that attractive as an ecosystem.
- Most people prefer to work for a company and not being contractors. We are not setup to do that and lost some very good people because of it. Also not everyone is confortable to be paid via the treasury, not everyone wants to create a company or to deal with social security or retirement by itself.
- End of the day there is a lot of competition for talent and that’s fine. We need to be better than others.

its not really a talent shortage but more that talent cant find jobs. Seems like our ecosystem has needs but no one but the insiders know about it.

From my experience and the ones from my cohort (PBA Singapore), the recruitement experience at Parity was pretty poor. There isnt a shortage of talent, even ones with experience. Maybe Parity has too much expectations/ has had some bad experiences in the past and wont settle with someone that doesnt fill 100% of the criterias but is willing to learn …
Parity’s culture is that people have a high level of automomy. That allow us to have a lean structure (very few TPM for examples) and to optimise cost to build.
This high level of autonomy is difficult to master when you are young. We are aware. At the same time, if we pay GAFAM salaries then we also expect the same amount of skills and dedication.
It here a space for junior people? We are trying to make it work:
- we hired a fair amount of master+3 years
- we hired people from the PBA
- we start to have interns (this summer)
- we are making deals with universities to have PhD students contribute to Polkadot
We are starting slow (1 per team) and we will increase it if we can absorb it.

Thats awesome to hear !
Yeah i feel like the biggest issue atm with the sdk and people trying to get into it is the lack of mentoring or guidance. Its ok to want autonomy, but there is a lack of how to/what to for someone just joining. But at the same time i understand that the maintainers dont have time to skill up external contributors… its complicated ^^
This would likely attract more relevant talent to Polkadot in general. There would be more visibility to newbies around the skills they need for this ecosystem, which is good for anyone making decisions about courses to take etc. We get a lot of questions in our community about what skills are need for one chain vs another, this will help paint a stronger picture to anyone wanting to work in this ecosystem.
- we start to have interns (this summer)
As someone working at conferences, I’ve been getting this question a lot. To which e-mail could I send young devs interested in applying for an internship?
@DotDotApe I can jump in here, great to hear that people are interested in internship positions with us.
There are 2 options
- We will be opening a role on our website shortly, which will be a great place for them to apply directly.
- You can send them to talent@parity.io (this will go directly to myself and the Talent team)

@Krayt78 Sorry to hear about your poor experience with the Parity Talent team.
I joined the Talent team, just before PBA6, which has turned out to be a very successful cohort for our hiring efforts, however, we do always want to improve and see how we can make the process even better, especially if it can help keep the PBA grads in the ecosystem.
If you are open to it, I would be keen to have a call to discuss how we could of improved your experience, hopefully this will help future graduates. My email is daniel.sedgwick@parity.io

This would be a great thing
I understand the sentiment that hiring can be tough and that junior roles might seem scarce.
Just wanted to give an update though: Two weeks ago, I’d brought on 3 PBA students. As of today, that number is up to 6.
Our PhD student program is also starting soon, and we’re really optimistic about it.
Echoing Pierre and Daniel, I actually think Parity is doing a solid job these days when it comes to hiring diverse talent and people from all backgrounds. Things are definitely moving in a positive direction.
