SocialFi platform to engage and bring more users to Polkadot?

Hi guys! Joshua here from Evius, part of team developing Paras: NFT Marketplace on Astar Network and an established group on NEAR Protocol too.

I noticed that the hype around Polkadot is not very big right now, compared to last year, as well as declining number of users and activity on Polkadot (correct me if I’m wrong). What do you think is the problem to that?

I thought of a solution for that, it’s a SocialFi platform similar to Galxe, where we can connect multiple Polkadot projects in one ecosystem and bring awareness to them through missions. We built that already for NEAR Protocol (called Arkana) and it amasses more than 400k users so far, as well as top 3 Dapp on Dappradar. If we bring this to Polkadot, would people use it / love it? We plan to make an SDK so that anyone can build similar or use our SDK to make an engaging Dapp to users.

Could you elaborate more about the project you’re going to work on?

Hi, I’m thinking of building a social platform that lowers barrier of entry for web2 → web3 through Meta Transactions. Missions on the platform will be focused on onboarding new users (such as creating new wallet) and social activity (such as following, retweeting, joining Discord / TG group). The SDK that we will create will enables other Dapp to do similar things like this.

Below are example of Dapps that we create for other chains:

Hey @frlfrlfrl

I agree that questing and reward based systems could help to grow the Polkadot user base and showcase some of the great tech already built within the Polkadot ecosystem.

We do already have AirLyft (https://airlyft.one/) who have built some great tech and have a nice UI IMO.

Also, checking out your website, it wasn’t letting me login for some reason → https://arkana.gg/

Hi @Grifone_1893

Yes, AirLyft is doing a great thing with their platform. I think some ways things could be improved is allowing people to sign in with Google Account? As most web2 users has minimal / no knowledge at all about wallets. Then we can give tutorials about creating wallet and connecting wallets as part of the quest.

Also I don’t know if transactions on AirLyft requires gas fee or not, but I think implementing Meta Tx so these new web2 users doesn’t have to worry about gas fees would really lower the barrier of entry for them.

For your problem in logging in, did you by any chance has Adblocker on? I think Adblocker prevents the login popup showing up.

Yep - Google login would be great, agreed!

I think on AirLyft, whoever is running the campaign can decide to pay the gas fees so users don’t have to.

@Grifone_1893

“whoever is running the campaign can decide to pay the gas fees so users don’t have to.” → I think that is a great idea as well. Thanks for the input fam!

Saw Arkana use the metatx approach, is it correct?

The thing with polkadot is that it doesn’t have “native” users, polkadot acts as the interoperable layer between parachains, so to get more users to polkadot means we need to get more users to parachains on top of polkadot

Seeing how account abstraction on ethereum play huge role in onboarding new and mainstream users, I think there should be an angle where dev tooling on polkadot can help and enable the parachains to be able to onboard users easily with account abstraction

There’s an open issue related to account abstraction here, but I’m not sure what’s the status atm @xlc Vision: Meta Transaction · Issue #266 · paritytech/polkadot-sdk · GitHub

Account abstraction is a loaded term representing many different features afaik.

Most features of account abstraction are already possible with Polkadot, and have been around longer than it has been on Etheruem

That being said, yes we do not have clear support for meta-transactions yet, which is the ability to have one user pay for fees of another user.

Is that specifically the feature you are associating with accout abstraction?

Saw this proposal, but I think it would be more complex since it will be done at the protocol layer.

I think we can follow how eth approached this problem by using higher layer operation instead of adding new protocol features ERC-4337: Account Abstraction Using Alt Mempool.

It should be done relatively easily with current conditions, especially in Ink!

Hi Hi,

Yes we are planning to introduce meta-transactions in Polkadot with our standard. We’re trying to build on the smart-contract level. The long term goal is Account Abstraction, but we’re going to start with smart-contract level first.

@ekkirinaldi Yes, this is a feature we’re trying to build, following eth’s footstep, hopefully it’s something we can implement here in Polkadot.

Hi Shawn,

Following up on discussions here, we decided to create a proposal on Polkadot on a Meta-transaction Ink! Specification Template. It would be great if you can support this proposal and/or point out anomalies in our proposal. Would be very open for a discussion on the proposal!

Here’s our proposal → MIST - Meta-transaction Ink! Specification Template
