Runtime release schedule and coordination on breaking changes

I have a few questions about the relay chain runtime release schedule. I didn’t find the useful information available on the internet. So I just drop the questions here hoping someone can answer them.

I got the question because there’s a minor breaking change introduced in Polkadot 1.4. Most of the people will not be affected, but if someone is building a Polkadot light client (e.g. a light client based bridge), their client will stop working if they don’t have the corresponding patch applied to the code.

Here are the questions:

  1. When will Polkadot 1.4 released on Kusama and Polkadot?
  2. What’s the general rule to decide if a version will be released or skipped?
  3. Where can I find the release schedule discussion?
  4. If there’s breaking change to the upstream, is it possible to coordinate with the release team to postpone the upgrade, or figure out the way to deal with the incompatibility together?

Hi @hangyin ,

we have got the same questions for Polkadot SDK 1.5.0 for other reasons.
At least for Kusama would be nice to have some clarity about the roadmap for releases .

Cheers,
