:television: Polkadot x Discovery Channel: Rare Opal Amulet Proposal (Vibe Check)

Hey everyone, Josiah here – Polkadot Sr Ambassador and founder of DeStore.
I’m floating a unique proposal idea and would love to get a vibe check from the community before pushing it to OpenGov.

:rainbow: What’s the Idea?

I’m proposing that the Polkadot Treasury acquire a rare, culturally significant opal amulet (RWA) that’s going to be featured on the Discovery Channel’s Outback Opal Hunters, a show with over 180 million global viewers across platforms like:

This opal amulet will be custom-made and given a Polkadot-themed name, filmed as it’s sold on camera to a Polkadot community rep. After that, it will be digitized into 10,000 NFTs and distributed to the community via onboarding initiatives. It will have open IP so anyone in the ecosystem can build with it—whether it’s for games, storytelling, user onboarding, or DeFi.

Filming for the next season has already started with other teams. I begin filming next month. I can play with the dates slightly, but I really only have one shot at this proposal, so we need to act diligently. The series will take 12–18 months to go live, so there will be time to plan the launch.

** Please note: The Discovery Channel has very strict rules and will have the final say on what gets published. However, I have a good working relationship with them and a proven track record of success, such as with the sale of “The Knight” in the metaverse.**

Think of it as a community-owned cultural artifact, bridging real-world media, collectibles, and digital identity.

  • Rare opal mined, cut, and crafted in Gold into a Polkadot-named amulet
  • Featured in an upcoming episode of Outback Opal Hunters (filming July–Aug 2025, airing ~2026)

  • NFT fractionalization – 10,000 open-IP NFTs distributed to collaborators to hand out via onboarding initiatives (Events, Popups, Gigadot DeFi, DotPlay, Mythical… etc.)
  • Open IP for the entire community to use (games, quests, collectibles, art, etc.)

  • Displayed publicly with a museum/gallery partner (Australia or UK)

  • Know any museum or gallery partners who could help?
  • What price point should it be sold for? Grok AI estimates the exposure + opal amulet value could be between $60,000 – $600,000. The higher the sale price, the more organic media coverage it will generate, as it becomes a bigger story—but what do you think?

This would be awesome from the opal idea and it being on discovery would be cool too
Feel like the NFTs should like get a reward attached; like giving the opal it’s own token under the polkadot chain (like a memecoin) which will be given to the holders

Just my idea on it
