How can I fix "no allowance set for account"?

I’m currently blocked from continuing to use Devnet on my personal account because I get the error “no allowance set for account”.

The account worked fine initially and after 4 hours this error started popping up and now prevents me from posting anything bulletin chain related.

I don’t know how to refill it.

Birdo suspected it resets every 24 hours but that was not the case. Erin has said I can delete some CIDs from what I posted before but I dont yet know how to retrieve them after the fact. (I guess I could check the chain? But I don’t know what address I would check)

I am opening a separate thread because it blocks me from testing and if other people suffer the same issue they should be able to find a resolution too.

What’s the suggested resolution path?

Hey Tommi,

This is caused by statement-store slot used for mobile app ↔ desktop communication to be expired.
Escape path: log-out of the Polkadot Desktop and log-in again. This should get you the fresh allocation.

This is not something that is a part of the normal operations - expected behavior is that those slots would be auto-renewed by Mobile app.

Can you please clarify

  1. Which platform had you used (Android/iOS)
  2. Which versions of the mobile app/ desktrop have you used
  3. Whether you can share logs from Mobile Debug menu (Settings → Debug → Share logs)

Hi @valentun

Thanks, that mitigated the issue (I logged out of the Web app and logged in again)

  1. I use iOS Polkadot v0.9.2 (5)
  2. I haven’t used the Desktop app yet, only the browser app on dev-dot.li
  3. Where do you want me to send the log to?

Hey @alice_und_bob,

Thank you for your livestream and for creating this topic!

We have looked into your issue in more detail, and our main idea is that there is a problem with the allowance renewal on the public iOS build.

To confirm this:

  1. Take screenshots from dev-dot.li right after the error occurs:
    1. Open in Debug mode
    2. input “Allocation” into TAG field
    3. Tap on the most recent incoming and outgoing events
    4. take screenshots of the event details
  2. Share logs from iOS Device
    1. Shake your device from any screen within the app
    2. Click on ‘Share logs’
    3. Send the logs, for example, to your own email address, and then add the topic

Until a new public version for iOS is released with this bug fixed, please use Valentin’s Escape Path:

log-out of the Polkadot Desktop and log-in again. This should get you the fresh allocation.

@duewarn I can try that tomorrow.

Can you advise on a fast path to use up my storage allowance? Should I just spam blobs onto the bulletin chain?

hi @duewarn,

I have signed a lot of actions today on Devnet and the issue has not reoccured. I am not sure if I will encounter it again or if it was related to the initial account setup and disappeared after re-linking.

If it appears again. I will let you know here.
