Good reads on proof-of-personhood

I’d like to share a few pointers now that Kusama Network bounties are live. I might update this list myself, but it’s my personal view of things. Feel free to comment whatever you think I’m missing.

My Proposal for a Human Proof of Personhood

My Starting Point

To approach Proof of Personhood in Polkadot, I cannot accept a solution that reduces us to mere data. I believe we must build a system that respects what it truly means to be human. My vision moves away from biometric surveillance—which I find invasive and dangerous—to focus on a sovereign identity that evolves with us. I want to integrate Gavin Wood’s technical power with an ethical layer where we are in total control.

The Four Pillars of My Vision

1. My Trajectory is My Identity

I am not an iris scan or a fingerprint; I am what I do. I propose that our proof of humanity be based on Narrative Trajectory.

  • How I see it: Instead of giving my biological data, my identity is strengthened through social attestations and real participation. My humanity score increases as I interact honestly: voting, attending physical events, or collaborating in governance.

  • Why it’s better: An AI can fake a photo, but it is nearly impossible to simulate years of consistent human commitment.

2. My Polymorphic Self

I accept that I am plural. I don’t want to be the same person when managing my finances as I am when participating in politics or socializing.

  • My proposal: Using Gavin’s Ring VRFs, the system should allow me to be verified as a unique human while generating different profiles for different uses.

  • The result: I avoid the digital panopticon. I can operate in DeFi and vote in referendums without anyone linking the two, protecting my privacy from any tracking.

3. My Right to Rebirth

To me, one of the greatest dangers of Web3 is immutable reputation. I don’t believe anyone should be sentenced for life for a past mistake.

  • My approach: I advocate for an Identity Reset mechanism. If I choose to, I can “burn” my current identity.

  • The price of freedom: Rebirth means starting over from scratch, losing my accumulated privileges. It is a fair trade to ensure I can always start anew.

4. My Right to Vanish

A system that doesn’t let you leave is a prison. I defend the right to total vanishing.

  • My proposal: Implement protocols that remove any cryptographic link between my physical self and my past actions.

  • My philosophy: If I cannot be forgotten, I am not a free user. Silence and disconnection are fundamental rights we must protect.

How I integrate Gavin’s levels (DIM1 & DIM2)

I have redesigned the DIM levels to be dynamic and, above all, human:

  1. My Level 1 (Social Anchor): My proof of biological existence, obtained through the recognition of other humans, not machines.

  2. My Level 2 (Narrative Trust): A level I cultivate over time. Thanks to Zero-Knowledge proofs, I prove my reputation without exposing my entire life.

  3. My Decoupling Function: The key piece that allows me, even as a Level 2 user, to choose to “rebirth” into a new profile, always maintaining sovereignty over my own story.

@Temujin007 I added the soulbound tokens paper to my list above. I guess that’s the closest to what you describe
