# Runtime release notification for v2.5.0 \[07.09.2026\]

**Runtime release notification**

Hello,

This is to advise you that the Polkadot community is currently voting to upgrade [_Polkadot system chains_](https://polkadot.subsquare.io/referenda/1942) to the [v2.5.0 release](https://github.com/polkadot-fellows/runtimes/releases/tag/v2.5.0).

This is a major runtime upgrade that adds [two new tracks to OpenGov: `technical_maintenance` and `prosperity_emergency`](https://github.com/polkadot-fellows/runtimes/pull/1236).

The `technical_maintenance` track will be used to update future apps’ operational settings such as quotas, allowances, limits and anti-spam fees. The `prosperity_emergency` track is intended to safeguard economic mechanisms.

🚧 **Important note for Ecosystem builders:** 🚧

This release also contains a PR that integrates multiple Individuality SDK components into People Polkadot and AssetHub Polkadot.  
You can find more details about this change [here](https://github.com/polkadot-fellows/runtimes/pull/1233).

The projected enactment date for this runtime upgrade is around 11th September 2026.

Does this enable usage of the Polkadot App then or are there more runtime upgrades required?

The Polkadot App uses the Runtimes. The runtimes itself cannot enable the app. But the new runtime will enable some things that is then used by the app.

The app does work. Not sure what you mean.

You mean in the future scope of the app? I dont know what is all in scope there.

I am not talking about the devnet app. I am talking about the mainnet app. What else is needed for that and when can we expect it to launch?
