"Revive" Smart Contracts: Status Update

Let me share this phrase from Linus Torvalds about one important rule in Linux Kernel that Polkadot breaks all the time.

We have one rule in the kernel, we DON’T break the userspace. Everything else is a guideline, people do stupid shit all the time I don’t get that upset, people break userspace I get really really angry.

Smart-contracts development tools and pallet ABI breaks all the time, the issue is not the technology or performance. The issue is being unable to rely on anything to be stable for a few months without breaking changes, or for tools to be maintained longer than a year or so… it makes hard to recommend polkadot to build any serious project.

  • Parachains got deprioritized in favor of Agile Core TIme
  • Parachains and parathreads are in the past, what’s cool now is JAM
  • Wasm and Frontier EVM got abbandoned in favor of RISC-V..
  • Let’s abandon all existing Wasm and RISC-V tools to focus on EVM support again…

Took years for Bitcoin and Ethereum get adopted, they would fail if in every hardfork all existing tools stopped working. Want to bring people in? STOP breaking userspace and whatever path Polkadot decide to take now, long-term commit to it. Pay more attention on people using the technology, not simply on improving the technology itself.
